Engage students with a human body game to learn science facts.
Grasping the concepts about the human body can be overwhelming to many students. Incorporate educational science games to engage the students in learning science facts about the human body.
Share a who am I science riddle with the class. Tell the students a few bits of information about the riddle answer.
Example of Who am I? Riddle
I am a muscle, who likes to make music.
Who am I?
I am the heart located in the middle of the body to the left. I am about the size of your fist.
My important job is to pump blood all around the body. The heart transports nutrients and wastes in the body.
You many have a picture of the heart with just part of the image showing as a teaser to the students, on the board.
Read the riddle to the students, and ask them who am I? Take all the answers and write them on the board. After all answers are given, reveal the correct answer. As you tell them the right answer to the science riddle add a few details about heart in the answer. As well, show a picture of a real heart and a sketch of the human heart.
It is best for students to see a true image of the human heart to visualize what is pumping inside of them. Too often, students get misshaped images of the heart and will educate others on this information.
Divide students into groups to research one of the main organs. The main organs of the human body are heart, lungs, skin, intestines, stomach, kidney, liver, and brain. Students will research the organ and create a riddle to begin their project.
Students are to include important science facts in their project. The student will include a riddle, photograph of the organ, sketch of the organ and the essential science facts will be legibly handwritten or typed in the organ.
The sketched organ with the information will be given to each student. Students will create a human body and place the different organs in the appropriate place. Students will have an excellent resource for studying the functions of the organs in the human body.
Before students present to the class, correct any misinformation given in their project. As well, prior to photocopying the organs, ensure the writing is legible or the teacher may choose to type the information for the students.
Have a large human body on a wall in the classroom. Have the individual groups make a large organ for the class human body. The teacher will print the information in each of the organs for the students to view on a daily basis.
For a test, draw an outline of the human body, and have students fill it with the different organs in the body. Students may label the organs and write a few facts about each organ in the human body.
